General Info
Unlike the bland sterility and indistinguishable style of thousands of Chinese 4-star hotels, the Kunming Hotel is a little bit different.The Stalinist tower-block is more attractive than many of the bland, sleek tower hotels in Kunming, and has been renovated in the last couple of years.
Rooms were very nice, but terribly hot and stuffy at night (but the window could be opened). Showers were good, but temperature changes from freezing to scalding were common if having a shower at "peak time" in the morning.
Expect to negotiate down from the Y600 to around Y500/night incl breakfast. Some tour operators can get better prices.
Travel agency is rather hopeless (contrary to what one guide book says).Friendly reception and concierge staff.
